If a postpaid phone plan is difficult to obtain because of overdue telecom bills or credit issues, a prepaid SIM may be a practical option. You top up before use, so postpaid credit screening does not apply in the same way.

Who can apply?

You can apply for a prepaid line in your own name unless a carrier restriction applies because of spam reports, improper line use or identity-related issues.

The shop verifies your identity and checks carrier restrictions before activation. Keeping an existing number through number portability requires a separate check of the current line.

A prepaid SIM may suit you if

  • Telecom arrears or credit issues make postpaid activation difficult
  • You need a Korean number without a long-term contract
  • You already have an unlocked or compatible phone and only need a SIM
  • You mainly need incoming calls, text messages or identity verification

What to bring

Foreign customers should bring an original foreign residence card or passport.

Bring the phone in which the SIM will be used. The shop will check compatibility with the selected network.

  • Mobile data: KRW 22.53 per MB
  • Calls, SMS and mobile data are deducted according to actual usage; Wi-Fi use does not deduct mobile data charges
